The Fase Boomerang 64 is an iconic mid-century modern table lamp that exemplifies Spanish industrial design at its finest.
Designed by Luis Pérez de la Oliva in 1964, this sculptural lamp features a distinctive curved arm that gives the model its “Boomerang” name. The striking S-shaped metallic arm supports a rotating UFO-style shade finished in black enamel, contrasted by a round white glass diffuser that provides warm, ambient lighting. The weighted black circular base ensures stability while allowing the entire lamp to swivel, demonstrating the sophisticated engineering that made Fase lamps legendary.
Fase was established in Madrid in 1964 by self-made entrepreneur Pedro García Martín and designer Luis Pérez de la Oliva. The Boomerang 64 was one of their very first designs and quickly became an icon of Spanish mid-century design. What began as a small operation selling lamps at Madrid street markets rapidly grew into one of Spain’s most successful industrial design companies of the 1970s, with a factory in Torrejón de Ardoz producing lamps that were exported to over 32 countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, and throughout Europe.
Luis Pérez de la Oliva was the most productive designer for Fase, creating the majority of the company’s lamp designs throughout the 1960s and 1970s. His innovative approach combined sculptural metal forms with functional lighting solutions, featuring sophisticated ball-and-socket joints that allowed unprecedented adjustability. Fase lamps gained international recognition and have been featured in numerous films and television productions, including the acclaimed series Mad Men, which helped spark a renewed appreciation for these Spanish design classics.
