This pair of swivel armchairs was designed by Carl Straub and manufactured during the 1950s. The frame is made of wood, fully upholstered in natural leather with a distinct patina. The armchairs have a distinctive profile, with a visibly broken line connecting the seat and backrest, and the two surfaces are joined together with an angular rim. The armrests, also circular in shape, are also made of wood and upholstered in leather. The swivel base is made of anodized aluminum, and the cushions have their original filling.
Carl Straub (often credited as C. Straub) was an architect, designer, and manufacturer. His work primarily spanned the 1950s and 1960s. In the world of mid-century design, he is considered one of the most compelling representatives of post-war modernism in Germany. Straub not only created visionary furniture but also ran his own furniture factory in Germany. This ensures his work is technically consistent, and the quality of the leathers used and the precision of the aluminum castings were under his direct supervision.
The armchairs are in original condition. It shows many signs of age, including scuffs, scratches, abrasions, discoloration, and repair marks. The leather has a natural, original patina. However, we believe this perfectly complements the style of the armchairs and their industrial character. This is one of the few pieces of furniture that will fit into both a penthouse and a warehouse, combining modernist form with an industrial touch. The seat height is 41 cm.
