This hand-knotted oriental Senneh rug was made in Iran during the 1960s. Traditionally flatwoven and dyed in shades of rustic red, purple, and ivory, Senneh rugs (also spelled Senna or Senneh) are a type of Persian rug that originates from the city of Sanandaj, formerly known as Senneh, in the Kurdistan Province of western Iran. These rugs are known for their high-quality craftsmanship and precise weaving, distinguishing them from other Persian rugs. They often feature complex geometric patterns, such as diamond patterns, boteh shapes (also known as paisley), and medallion motifs. These patterns are typically intricate and meticulously woven. Senneh rugs are characterized by muted colors, such as shades of red, blue, brown, beige, and cream. They are obtained from natural dyes, giving the rugs a distinctive appearance. Senneh rugs are distinguished by a weaving technique called the Senneh asymmetrical knot. This technique allows for a finer and more detailed pattern compared to other techniques. High-quality wool, sometimes with the addition of silk, is used to create Senneh rugs, giving them a softness and a delicate sheen. They are usually densely woven, which contributes to their durability and the precision of the pattern. Senneh rugs are valued for both their aesthetics and durability, making them a popular choice among lovers of traditional Persian rugs.
The rug is in original vintage condition. It has signs of wear due to age, fabric loss, abrasions and damage to the fleece. The rug will be professionally cleaned and ready for use before shipping.
