Beschreibung des Produkts
Brutalist Signed Sculptural Studio Ceramic Uta Falter-Baumgarten Germany, 1989 Large hand-built sculptural ceramic object by German sculptor Uta Falter-Baumgarten (1924–2022). The vertically oriented form combines architectural planar surfaces with ribbed, drapery-like relief, creating a strong sculptural presence. The pale mineral glaze is animated by dark flowing glaze runs produced during firing, emphasizing gravity and ceramic process. The underside bears the artist’s incised monogram “UF” and the date “89,” consistent with documented signatures of the artist. Falter-Baumgarten worked primarily as a sculptor and maintained her own studio in Hamburg-Harburg from 1967 onward. Her ceramic works from the 1980s treat clay as a sculptural medium rather than a utilitarian vessel. Height: approx. 45 cm Material: Glazed studio ceramic Date: 1989 Origin: Germany The signature corresponds to documented examples of the artist’s monogram Condition: Very good vintage condition with kiln-related surface effects, glaze runs, and firing fissures typical for expressive studio ceramics. Provenance: Private German collection. Artist Uta Falter-Baumgarten (1924–2022) was a German sculptor and ceramic artist born in Harburg (Elbe) and active primarily in Hamburg-Harburg. She studied at the Hamburg art school (later the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg) and at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. From 1967 onward she maintained her own studio. Her artistic practice encompasses sculpture, terracotta, ceramics, bronze, and numerous works in public space. During the 1980s she produced a series of ceramic works in which clay was treated explicitly as a sculptural medium. In 2013 she was awarded the Biermann-Ratjen Medal by the City of Hamburg for her artistic achievements. Institutional Context Works from the estate of Uta Falter-Baumgarten will be presented in the forthcoming exhibition “New Acquisitions. Donations.” Museum Kunststätte Bossard Opening November 2026
