Description du produit
Set of 6 mid-century mahogany chairs with green leather seats. Designed by Osvaldo Borsani, Atelier Varedo Borsani for "Mobilificio Fratelli Turri", 1950s. These chairs represent a masterpiece of Italian modernist design, part of a complete set consisting of a buffet, sideboard, and table. Also available individually; price for the entire set upon request. Dimensions: Width 43 cm Depth 51 cm Height 93 cm Seat height 47 cm Excellent condition. One chair is missing the lower side supports, as shown in the photos. The chairs by Osvaldo Borsani for Fratelli Turri represent an extraordinary and rare testimony to Italian design from the 1950s, a golden age when the high craftsmanship of Brianza met the modernist vision of great architects. Although Osvaldo Borsani's industrial fame is universally linked to the founding of the Tecno brand (with famous pieces such as the P40 armchair and the D70 sofa), his collaboration with the Fratelli Turri furniture factory in Carugo resulted in refined, high-end furnishings produced in limited editions. Characteristics of Borsani-Turri chairs and furnishings Borsani's designs for the Turri company in the 1950s are distinguished by a perfect fusion of Midcentury Modern aesthetics and luxury cabinetry: Precious materials: The frames of the chairs and matching tables use noble woods such as mahogany, rosewood, and walnut. Metallic details: Constant presence of brass tips and slender connecting elements. Sculptural lines: Contoured backrests with clean yet enveloping geometries, typical of the organic style of the postwar period. Refined upholstery: Seats upholstered in velvet, silk, or patterned fabrics in the typical tones of the period (such as petrol green, mustard yellow, or antique pink). The context: Complete dining sets In most cases, on the modern antiques market and at international auctions, these chairs do not appear alone but are part of monumental dining sets. Borsani designed entire settings for Turri that included: Dining tables: Often with imposing tops in fine marble (such as pink marble from Portugal) supported by geometric wooden structures and brass details. Cupboards and Sideboards: Large, matching sideboards in rosewood or polished mahogany, featuring onyx inserts or finely integrated mirrors.
