Artist Timo Sarpaneva (Helsinki, Finland 1926 – Helsinki, Finland 2006) was an influential Finnish designer, sculptor, and educator best known in the art world for innovative work in glass. While glass remained his most commonly addressed medium, he worked with metal, wood, textiles, and porcelain (china). His work was among the key components that helped to launch Finland's reputation as a trailblazer of design. Recipient of many rewards, among others: The Luning prize (1956), Grand Prix Triennale di Milan (1954, 1957) and Gold medal, Concorso Internazionale della Ceramica d'Arte Contemporanea, Faenza (1976). Description Two turned-mould blown, flared and rim folded colored glass "Pantareuna" bowls, model i-302. Designed by famous Finnish artist Timo Sarpaneva in 1956 and executed by Iittala glassworks between 1956 and 1960. "Pantareuna" referes to the folded rim these series by Sarpaneva have in common. These bowls are part of the i-series for which Sarpaneva was awarded the "Grand Prix" in the 1957 Milan Triennale and were made in two sizes and three colors (purple, green and blue). The green color items were only produced during the first year of production and are therefore rare. The bowls are signed in diamondpen underneath the base: Timo Sarpaneva - Iittala 56 (1956) and Timo Sarpaneva - Iittala i302 (purple one). Condition These glassobjects are in good condition, some minor scratches mostly underneath the bases consistent with age and use. No Cracks or chips.
