G-Plan Brasilia Coffee Table in Teak & Afromosia 1960s
This elegant mid-century coffee table — part of the celebrated “Brasilia” line — is crafted from richly grained teak, with accents in afromosia wood, and features sculptural legs and a refined silhouette typical of 1960s modernist design.
The table’s clean lines and warm wood tones make it a sophisticated centrepiece for a living room: an ideal platform for drinks, books or décor — equally at home in a vintage-inspired space or a contemporary interior, where its timeless craftsmanship adds warmth and character.
Because this coffee table comes from G-Plan’s golden era — designed by Victor B. Wilkins during a time when the company strove to match Scandinavian elegance with British build quality — it represents a historically significant and stylistically pure example of mid-century modern design. Its teak and afromosia construction, refined proportions and timeless aesthetic give it both aesthetic and collectible value.
G-Plan was produced by E. Gomme Ltd., a British furniture company founded in 1898 in High Wycombe. After the Second World War, G-Plan became one of the most influential names in mid-century modern British furniture, known for high-quality teak designs inspired by Scandinavian style. During the 1950s–70s, G-Plan helped bring modern, clean-lined furniture into everyday British homes and remains highly collectible today.
Victor B. Wilkins was a key in-house designer for G-Plan during the 1960s and early 1970s. Though little is documented about his personal life, he is best known for creating some of G-Plan’s most iconic pieces, including the Brasilia range and the sculptural Astro coffee tables. His work blends Scandinavian elegance with British craftsmanship, making his designs enduring classics of the mid-century modern era.
