The Juno pendant lamp represents a pinnacle of Danish mid-century modern lighting design, created by renowned designer Jo Hammerborg for Fog & Mørup in 1966. It features three layered cylindrical metal shades in a warm yellow finish, embodying the minimalist elegance and timeless aesthetic that defined Scandinavian design of the era. The lamp’s geometric composition creates a unique interplay of light and shadow, casting warm, inviting illumination while serving as a bold statement piece.
Jo Hammerborg (1920-1982) was a Danish industrial designer who served as head of design at Fog & Mørup from 1957 to 1980, transforming the company into one of the leading lighting manufacturers of the mid-century period. Originally trained as a silversmith and educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Hammerborg brought a refined understanding of form, function, and aesthetics to his work. During his tenure at Fog & Mørup, he designed over 60 lamps, many receiving international recognition for their innovative use of materials and elimination technique—a design philosophy focused on reducing elements to their essential components.
Fog & Mørup was founded in 1904 by Ansgar Fog and Erik Mørup in Aarhus, Denmark, initially as an ironmongery warehouse before transitioning to specialized lighting production. The company moved to Copenhagen in 1906 and opened a dedicated lighting factory in 1913, eventually becoming synonymous with high-quality Danish modern lighting. Under Hammerborg’s creative direction, the company experienced its most successful period, producing iconic designs that remain highly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts today.
