Descrizione del prodotto
An exceptionally rare early production dining suite by Giuseppe Rivadossi for Officina Rivadossi, comprising a monumental circular dining table and four sculptural solid oak chairs, executed as a private commission for the residence of a senior Beretta Arms executive in the Brescia region of Northern Italy. This remarkable ensemble belongs to the artist’s most sought-after and historically important period, when Rivadossi’s work still existed in the delicate territory between sculpture, architecture and functional furniture, long before any notion of wider production. Pieces from this formative phase are today considered among the purest expressions of Italian sculptural Brutalism of the post-war era. The imposing circular table is crafted entirely from solid oak, supported by an architectural intersecting pedestal base of almost monastic presence. The top is enriched by discreet geometric inlaid motifs, subtle yet intellectually rigorous, perfectly reflecting Rivadossi’s deeply spiritual relationship with wood and handcrafted construction. The four accompanying chairs are arguably the most extraordinary aspect of the entire commission. Their hand-carved seats feature the exceptionally rare “diamond incision” motif — a sculptural geometric carving almost never encountered in Rivadossi’s later production and virtually absent from the international market. Their austere yet sensual construction, with deliberately visible joinery and uncompromising material honesty, embodies the artist’s philosophy at its most authentic. The suite retains a magnificent untouched original patina throughout, with a deep, warm surface character acquired over decades, lending the ensemble the quiet gravitas and contemplative atmosphere for which Rivadossi’s earliest works are celebrated amongst the most discerning collectors. Initially trained as a sculptor, Giuseppe Rivadossi emerged during the 1960s as one of the most singular artistic voices in Italian design. Supported during the following decade by influential cultural figures and renowned gallerists including Renato Cardazzo and Alfredo Paglione, his work was exhibited at major institutions such as the Milan Triennale, the Menton Biennale and the Rotonda della Besana. His oeuvre attracted critical attention from prominent intellectuals including Giovanni Testori, Vittorio Sgarbi, Mario Botta and Ermanno Olmi. By virtue of its documented private provenance, exceptional state of preservation, sculptural importance and the near-unique survival of the diamond-carved chairs, this suite must be regarded as one of the finest and rarest Giuseppe Rivadossi ensembles to have surfaced on the market in recent years.
