This pair of Tortuga armchairs by Beka Italia is a striking example of late‑1960s/1970s Space Age Italian design. Their sculptural silhouette, with bold geometric cut‑outs and low, architectural seating, makes them a statement piece for collectors and lovers of vintage interiors.
The structure features white lacquered wooden side panels and deep, ergonomic seats originally upholstered in black faux leather with button‑tufted details. The design is unmistakably retro‑futuristic — perfect for modern lofts, creative studios, or anyone who appreciates iconic Italian design.
Condition
These armchairs are original from the period and show signs of age consistent with 50 years of use:
Lacquer chips on the wooden panels
Wear on the faux leather
One seat has a visible tear (see photos)
They are ideal for a restoration or reupholstery project.

To support the restoration, the chairs come with 10 meters of premium velvet (linen + heavy viscose, 600–700 g/m), width 140 cm.
This fabric is suitable for sofas, chairs, and armchairs — enough to upholster both chairs with leftover material.
Inspired by minimalist Italian interiors, this concept shows how the Tortuga armchairs transform when reupholstered in off‑white linen‑viscose velvet — a 600–700 g/m blend crafted in Italy. The texture catches light softly, balancing warmth and restraint as in the last picture.
Upholstery fabric: 10 m length × 1.40 m width, velluto lino viscosa 1000 × 130, era 2020 +, condition as new.
A timeless pairing of Space‑Age form and contemporary serenity — my inspiration for the restoration.
