Descrizione del prodotto
This modernist coffee table, model FD 15/54, was designed by the esteemed duo of Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen for the renowned France & Daverkosen (later France & Søn) in 1956. This extraoridynary piece is the quintessence of mid-century Scandinavian modernism, combining timeless elegance with extraordinary functionality. Crafted entirely from solid teak with a warm patina, the table impresses with its precision craftsmanship and attention to detail, such as subtle brass fittings and hinges. The main advantage of the FD 15/54 is its extendable function. Thanks to solid brass hinges, the two side wings can be easily raised or lowered, allowing for smooth adjustment of the furniture's length. When folded, the table functions as a compact coffee table, while when extended, its length increases from 129 cm to an impressive 183 cm, providing additional usable space. This versatility makes it not only a beautiful but also an incredibly practical piece of furniture, ideal for dynamic living spaces. The history of France & Daverkosen is somewhat obscure. Most sources agree that this Danish manufacturer was founded in 1948 by British businessman Charles W. France and Danish carpenter Eric Daverkosen. By 1952, they had built a large furniture factory in Hillerød, near Copenhagen, and quickly became one of Denmark's most successful furniture companies. In 1957, when France's son, Julian, joined the company, the name was changed to France & Søn. Between 1964 and 1967, Danish designer Poul Cadovius purchased the brand and changed the name to CADO. Cadovius continued producing France & Søn designs and collaborated with an impressive list of iconic designers, including Verner Panton. Hvidt & Mølgaard were a prominent Danish architect and design duo. They were known for their light, simple, and clear designs, crafted with precision. In 1944, the couple founded Hvidt & Mølgaard Studio, which they ran together until 1975. During this time, the pair created designs for some of Denmark's most prominent brands, including Fritz Hansen, France & Søn, and Søborg Møbelfabrik. In 1950, they designed the AX chair, which established their careers as industrial designers and became an icon of mid-20th-century Danish design. It was the first Danish chair made of curved, laminated wood. The AX chair was eventually accompanied by the AX table, which was exhibited in 1951 as part of the Good Design show sponsored by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. During their career, they designed over 256 pieces of furniture together. Together, they received an iF Product Design Award for the Safari lamp for Nordisk Solar Compagni. Their work can be found at MoMA in New York, the National Gallery in Melbourne, and the Danish Museum of Art & Design in Copenhagen. This table has been restored and is in very good vintage condition. It has a natural patina and normal signs of age. Some screws have been replaced. The colors of the products shown in the photos may differ slightly from the actual ones. This is due to individual monitor settings and lighting conditions – the photos were taken in artificial light, which may affect the perception of colors. However, we strive to ensure that the photos reflect the actual appearance of the product as faithfully as possible. The offer may include photos of item in the living space, but these are for illustrative purposes only.
