The Fase Madrid Boomerang 2000 is an iconic example of late mid-century Spanish lighting design, blending sculptural form with functional precision.
Produced by Fase in Madrid during the 1970s, the Boomerang series evolved from the company’s earliest designs into a more refined and futuristic expression. The “Boomerang 2000” variant features the signature sweeping curved arm, giving the lamp its dynamic, almost weightless appearance.
This particular piece stands out with its elegant and rare color combination: a deep red–Bordeaux lacquered shade and base, beautifully contrasted by a golden-brown metallic arm. The bold yet warm palette enhances its sculptural presence, making it both a functional light source and a striking decorative object.
The adjustable shade allows directional lighting, while the distinctive boomerang-shaped arm provides both balance and visual movement. The heavy circular base ensures stability, reflecting the high-quality engineering Fase became known for.
🏛️ About the Design
Fase was founded in Madrid in the 1960s by Pedro García Martín together with designer Luis Pérez de la Oliva. Their collaboration led to some of the most recognizable Spanish lamp designs of the era.
While earlier Boomerang models (often dated around 1964) introduced the concept, later versions like the Boomerang 2000 reflect a more mature Space Age aesthetic, with smoother finishes, richer colors, and improved adjustability. Fase lamps became internationally successful during the 1970s, exported widely across Europe, the United States, and Japan.
Today, these lamps are considered collectible design pieces and have appeared in film and television, notably in Mad Men, contributing to their renewed popularity among design enthusiasts.
