Oil on canvas abstract painting by Henk Postma.....Who is Henk Postma? After his education at the Rietveld, he worked as an advertising man at the Illustrated Press. After a few years he started his own design studio in Amsterdam and worked for several large companies of the time. In a short period of introspection and reflection on his life, he discovered, what many had already told him, that he needed to reach beyond his advertising work and do more with his painting talents.
He started painting freely and his colorful work sold well immediately. But a few years ago it no longer satisfied him. There had to be more. Not that he felt there was anything left to renew in painting. But from his earlier search for balance in the tessellation of the designs in his advertising days and the color balance he found in his first free work, a desire arose to get to the ultimate simplicity.

Postma searched for the painting in which the planes or other elements together still have enough attraction. The moment when they still provide just enough tension. Of course he knew that such work is no longer directly commercial, that an untrained eye might be able to see or feel it, but that knowledge is needed to interpret it.
