Willemsen deliberately opts for a mixture that is at the intersection of abstraction and figuration. The people are recognizable as such, the attitude can be read, but every 'superfluous' detail is deliberately left out. Wil Willemsen opts for the grand gesture. The contours of her characters are depicted in spacious areas applied with a brush or spatula. In layer upon layer, a vital suggestion of man becomes, the lively communication between people, spontaneously and intuitively awakened in paint on the flat surface. Her figures radiate emotions such as curiosity, jealousy and resignation. Human groups are bound together by rough paint rhythms. Willemsen works with acrylic paint. It dries faster than oil, which suits her temperament better. She opts for bright and primary colors and in this the artist shows her positive attitude to life. In addition, the composition is open and clear. Red is her favorite color. The artist takes notes in the form of drawings. ?Take a look around the foyer of the theatre, a terrace, during a meeting, at a party or in a waiting room. You can see from the attitude that they are different personalities with their own appearance and character. That became my challenge: Can I create a group of people with their own expression? Can I show the mutual relationship? Who are interested in each other and who are not? And how do I capture that on the canvas? It continues to inspire me.
