This chair was originally called “BKF”. The letters refer to the surnames of his three designers Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari Hardoy. Together they formed the Austral Group, which designed the chair in 1938 for an apartment building in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Over time, the chair got the name Butterfly or butterfly chair thanks to its distinctive design. Knoll also issued this chair for a period of time until the license expired. After that, a lot of cheaper versions came on the market. Knoll presented another 80th anniversary chair in 2018. This is an original old frame, made of steel and crocheted over it is the still strong blue canvas in original condition. The chair was once bought at the Bijenkorf in the 1970s. Much nicer proportions than the versions you can currently buy everywhere and also much better quality! Build to last shall we say.
