Simon Old - NL8

Description

The 'sink line' by Simon Oud (1956) Amsterdam Most of the objects Simon Oud makes are constructed from zinc, sometimes combined with brass. He is not a sculptor, because he does not chop. He does not assume a volume of material from which he takes something in order to arrive at a meaningful form. He builds up his work from sheets of metal, the soft, cold zinc and the more massive, warm brass. He constructs an image in his head and draws it out, tries out variations of it in paper and cardboard and then builds it up from the metal that he cuts, bends, rolls, files, solder, etch, sand, polish and place in space. He usually works in series, in which he creates a composition of objects that can function both independently and in relation to each other. The sculptures can be hung both indoors and outdoors. The zinc gives a beautiful weathered patina
