Silkscreen Gerard Schaperkotter

Description

Beautiful silkscreen print by the well-known artist Gerard Schaperkotter (1914-2006), beautifully framed in passé-tout and frame (gilded paint) work comes from the municipality of Amstelveen. Tribute to Gerard Schäperkötter in Museum Jan van der Togt News -> Culture Source: Museum Jan van der Togt / Piet vd Heuvel 28-01-2013 From January 16 to February 24, 2013, Museum Jan van der Togt will pay tribute to the artist Gerard Schäperkötter, who died in 2006. The exhibition shows a selection of the works that he donated to the municipality of Amstelveen on his 80th birthday. Gerard Schäperkötter (1914 - 2006) was a modest artist who composed his canvases and gouaches very calmly. He created a new reality from his memory and imagination. Schäperkötter was inspired by the expressionism of the Cobra movement and École de Paris. His approach to the medium was spontaneous and free and led – after a figurative run-up in the 1960s and 1970s – to powerful compositions. Schäperkötter's artworks are characterized by the alternation of lyrical abstraction and penetrating use of colour. Common themes are beaches, walls and gardens. In 1984 Schäperkötter exhibited together with Jan Verschoor in the Singer Museum in Laren. In addition to being a sculptor, Verschoor is now also director of the Jan van der Togt Museum. And so, after almost 30 years, both artists' souls come together again for a while. The opening of the exhibition took place on Sunday 27 January 2013 at 2 pm, and was performed by Piet van den Heuvel, former alderman for culture in Amstelveen.
