Beautiful large mid-century cocoon pendant lamp style Achille Castiglioni made in Italy in the 1960s.
The main feature of this iconic pendant lamp by architect Achille Castiglioni is the new material used to make it. The frame is made of metal covered with Cocoon spray-on plastic.
In the United States, after World War II, a new type of glass fiber reinforced spray-on plastic coating called Cocoon was invented to protect disarmed warships.
This innovative material was imported to Italy by Arturo Eisenkeil, a small manufacturer from Merano, who used this resin to make and then market lampshades.
The lamp is in good used condition with traces of use. (see pictures)
