Oil painting on canvas by Maarten van Dreven from 1998 entitled "Tonga". Size: 96 x 66 cm. Maarten Antonie van Dreven was born on 12 July 1941 in Sneek and died on 7 February 2001 in The Hague. He was educated at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague with, among others, Co Westerik. Together with the young artists, whom he got to know through the academy, Pat Andrea, Peter Blokhuis, Walter Nobbe and Jurjen de Haan, he is considered to be among the "New Realists" in The Hague. Maarten van Dreven and his friend Jurjen de Haan were the representatives of photorealism (hyperrealism). His background as a fashion designer is clearly identifiable. Won the Jacob Hartog Prize in 1978 with the painting Mister Spaceman 2. Artwork is obtained directly from the artist's estate.
