The work has hung in Loods 6 Amsterdam - exhibition co-financed by the Dutch Academy for Image Creation, the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds and the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts. After that there were 2 follow-up exhibitions. The work can now go to a permanent owner.
Project description
For the 'Stil' project, I visited homes of the elderly. I spoke to the residents about their home, the fond memories they have there and the realization that they will leave their home at some point.
What we often do not realize when we come into contact with such an interior, is that it will disappear in the next 10 to 20 years. That was the reason for me to capture the stereotypical image of this interior and to give it a stage.
The photos are of the interior of the older generation, but captured in a contemporary way. I went in search of the atmosphere and the feeling that goes with it. The images are recognizable but leave room for the viewer to make their own associations. In my photography I play with the concept of approaching fate and stillness.
About the photographer
The photographer is Cynthia Zonneveld.
As a photographer I make still lifes, from parts of an interior or other objects. I am interested in social and cultural topics and have a background as a sociologist myself. Themes that fascinate me are Dutch or Western culture and modern society. I portray these abstract subjects in a light-hearted and playful way. I am looking for images that are recognizable, iconic or universal. I then record these in a minimalistic way. My photography is often narrative or alienating, I like to exaggerate and make the viewer look at a subject in a different way.
