Constant Anton Nieuwenhuijs (1920 – 2005) was a great Dutch visual artist, author, musician. He was a leading member of the Cobra art movement and, in addition to being a painter, he also designed the visionary architectural project New Babylon. He signed his work Constant and was usually only referred to by this first name. Because Constant was a visual artist, there are only a few furniture designs by his hand. In 1954 he works with Gerrit Rietveld on a design for a model home for department store de Bijenkorf. This will be exhibited at the event ‘Colour harmony in your home’ at the Bijenkorf in Amsterdam. For this exhibition Constant designed this wall mounted metal sheet metal shelf produced by the Dutch company Asmeta. This makes these shelves very rare and collectible. This is a set of three pieces in clearly original vintage condition with a beautiful patina in the paint. Where the white version was originally red in color and has been hand-painted white.Mooie vintage conditie, 1 shelve was origineel rood een vorige eigenaar heeft deze wit geschilderd.
