ClassiCon side table Eileen Gray E 1027

This timeless ClassiCon E 1027 side table was designed by Eileen Gray, one of the world's first interior architects. Over the years, the ClassiCon 'adjustable table' has grown into a real design classic and is indispensable in the world of contemporary design. Gray, originally from Ireland, is one of the pioneers of modernist architecture, including Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer. Like them, she explored the processing and bending of steel, a material that is often reflected in her designs. Eileen Gray graduated from the Slade School of Fine Arts in 1898. She continued her studies in Paris at the Academie Julian and Academie Colarossi. After the 1st World War she started to focus on interior design and with great success. After completing several assignments, she opened a small gallery called Jean Desert to sell her own work and that of artist friends. The frame of the adjustable table E 1027 has an elegance that is reflected in any interior. 'Form follow's function', the tubular frame is also a handle at the top. This makes it possible to adjust the side table in height. You unlock it by pulling a stick out of a hole. By lifting it afterwards, you can easily select a higher position by inserting the rod again. So you can use it in different ways. The height can be adjusted at various points from 64 to 102 cm. The diameter of the table top is 52 cm and the lower part of the table is 46 cm. The E 1027 side table has a smoke grey/parsol glass top and a black powder-coated base. The adjustable table is perhaps her most famous design. She designed it in 1927 for her house in the south of France, which she built together with her partner at the time, Jean Badovici. Like the table, the house was given the name 'E 1027', which is a code for the first letters of their first and last names. 'E' stands for Eileen, '10' for the letter J (10th in the alphabet), '2' for the letter B and '7' for the letter G. Eileen Gray's adjustable table has been copied a lot. Plagiarism has always been strict. The authenticity can be recognized by the stamp in the frame, serial number, ClassiCon logo and signature of Eileen Gray.
