Who is Kelly Wearstler?

Kelly Wearstler (1967) is an American interior designer and now one of the most sought after designers of the moment. She studied interior and graphic design at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston and moved to Los Angeles in her mid-20s to make it into the film industry as a set designer. Via via she got the opportunity to furnish a house of a film producer and she did it so well that the ball started rolling. Kelly now has her own design firm: Kelly Wearstler Interior Design (or KWID) and she works for celebrities such as Cameron Diaz, she has decorated hotels such as the Avalon Hotel with which she realized her breakthrough and designs wallpaper, carpets and furniture. You can also follow a masterclass from her on Masterclass.com

Queen of Mixology

Kelly likes contradictions. As she describes herself, her style is characterized by: 'Raw meets Refined'. Think natural, rich textures like wood and stone mixed with contemporary design and vintage - something old with something new. The tension of masculine and feminine elements inspires her - juxtaposing pieces from the 50's, 60's, or 80's. Think Mid-Century Modern design with sleek modern elements of gold and copper tones. Or a daring mix of colors combined with black and white contrasts with an Art Deco atmosphere. Her goal: to create a sense of adventure and tell a story. She also calls it Mixology.

Vintage collector

Kelly is a collector of special vintage pieces. According to her, combining modern with vintage and classic gives a room a soul. She prefers to compose spaces that are steeped in history and that still feel innovative, new and relevant. In her designs you often find design classics by modernists such as Eero Saarinen, George Nelson and Elio Martinelli, but we also see future Dutch classics such as the Pallone from Leolux. When she recently bought 2 chairs from Dutch Designer Rob Eckhardt at Whoppah, we jumped. We hope to see them again soon in one of her special creations.
